🪪 Identification Requirements
Florida law requires satisfactory identification before most notarial acts can be performed.
All identification presented must comply with applicable requirements under Chapter 117, Florida Statutes.
Signers must generally:
- appear personally,
- present acceptable identification,
- and appear willing and capable of understanding the transaction.
✔️ Commonly Accepted Identification
Examples of acceptable government-issued photo identification may include:
- Florida Driver License
- Driver License issued by another U.S. state or territory
- Florida Identification Card
- United States Passport
- Foreign Passport stamped by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
- Military Identification Card
- Permanent Resident Card (“Green Card”)
- State-Issued Concealed Weapon License
- Canadian or Mexican Driver License (where legally acceptable)
Identification must generally:
- contain a photograph,
- include a signature,
- and be current or otherwise acceptable under Florida law.
⚠️ Identification That May Be Refused
We may refuse identification that:
- appears altered,
- is expired beyond legally acceptable limits,
- lacks required information,
- appears damaged or suspicious,
- or does not reasonably establish identity.
We reserve the right to decline identification that does not meet legal or professional standards.
👥 Personally Known Signers
In limited situations permitted by law, notarization may be performed if the signer is personally known to the notary.
Additional requirements or documentation may still apply depending on the circumstances.
👤 Credible Witnesses
Where permitted under Florida law, a credible witness may sometimes be used when a signer lacks acceptable identification.
Additional legal requirements apply, including:
- witness identification,
- oath requirements,
- and professional discretion.
Credible witness situations may require advance discussion before appointment confirmation.
🚫 Refusal Rights
Notarial services may be refused where:
- proper identification cannot be established,
- the signer appears unwilling,
- communication is not reasonably possible,
- or legal requirements are not satisfied.
We reserve the right to refuse service where permitted by law.
📄 Customer Responsibility
Customers are responsible for:
- presenting acceptable identification,
- ensuring identification is available at the appointment,
- and confirming all signers can meet Florida notary requirements.
Failure to provide acceptable identification may result in:
- cancellation,
- rescheduling,
- or refusal of service.
